*Please note this is a one time offer. Once we (White Whiskers) have our own dogs on the property, personal dogs will not be allowed for the safety & health of our dogs.
A Message From Our Founder…
We are turning a very significant page and preparing to open our doors. Do we still have a lot of work ahead of us? Yes we do. Many parts of the sanctuary are not completed.
Our beloved contractors, Valerie and Ryan Szymanek, are working so diligently, but there is so much to this, and they want to do it right! Things have happened beyond their control, and yet they soldier on!
We had our first Veterans’ meeting, and we are so glad we can be of some use to some very deserving folks! Our first project will be to partner with the VA Hospital in Buffalo to bring some of the vets in Hospice out to the sanctuary to spend a few hours with us.
They will be treated like the VIP”s they are, and we will do all we can to show them how grateful we are for their service!
I am lining up pups to meet with. They must be able to get along with all other dogs and people of all ages. Because we are a free-roaming facility, this will be critical! We are also going to ask they be spayed/ neutered and up to date on shots. This is important because all of our finances have so far gone into the rebuilding and so, until we can raise more money, we will not be able to afford to offer this care right away.
We still need a volunteer kitchen, and we are wishing very hard for some angel to come through with the needed funds to build our covered outdoor patio. What a wonderful place this will be, offering visitors the opportunity to sit in the shade in a chair and watch our pups running through our doggie pools and chasing tennis balls!
But, this letter is also about thanking people. Our volunteers are STUNNINGLY splendid! Many have been with me since the beginning. Without them, I would NEVER have been able to pull this off. And we can’t forget all the supporters who attend our events, eat our baked goods, buy our pierogis and flower bulbs, shirts, popcorn, hats, puzzles, raffle tickets and more!
Then we have our donors – monetary, bottles and cans and Dash’s receipts’ collectors! All of you have invested in this project. Every piece of drywall, every nail, every 2 by 4, all the windows, doors, (I could go on and on) represent someone’s donation or a part thereof. Without you, Whiskers would never have become a reality. You built this sanctuary and all of you have a stake in it.
Please attend our Open House Weekend on August 10 and 11 from Noon – 4, both days. You will get to see everything. From my apartment (yes, I get to live there with 25 dogs!!!!) to what will be our elegant meeting room, to the beautiful and comfortable space for our residents, I know you will see what we do – a future gorgeous and loving space for the pups, our volunteers and visitors. And you will pardon our dust because we are still constructing and because you will be able to see what will be!

If you are interested in being a volunteer these are the steps:
- Sign up for our Mandatory Orientation (use the button below to add your name to our orientation email list)
- Fill out an official volunteer application (this will be sent after you sign up for an orientation session)
- Attend the orientation session
- Read and sign our volunteer handbook
- Sign up for your first volunteer shift
- Come to your first shift excited to learn and ready to train under an experienced volunteer
