White Whiskers Update

Moose Granger

It was a wonderful two weeks for Whiskers! The asbestos removal was completed (with a hefty price tag), and we received our demo permit. The demo began last Monday the 13th of March. Because of insurance, we cannot have volunteers help with this. But we have 6 wonderful, insured workers who are laboring for free and doing one heck of a job! By the time our contractor, Ryan, gets back from his honeymoon, we should be just about down to the studs. Our Board members, Jim Lion and Joe Fecio, also worked like “dogs.” (I find that expression funny since my dogs don’t work at all, not even for treats most of the time.)

Also, I was delighted to be able to make two trips to deliver Moose and Granger to loving new homes! Moose, whose parent was suddenly unable to care for him, and Granger who needed a little quiet and some canine companionship after living in a houseful of children under the age of 9, were both delivered into the fabulous care of Beagle experts! They are guaranteed to live the remainder of their years in comfort and safety and peace. (Exactly what we want for all our Whiskers’ dogs!)

On each trip, I was accompanied by a White Whiskers Board Member. First with Ron Daniels and the second with Joe Fecio. It was a pleasure to be of service! And let me tell you, nothing beats the satisfaction of rescuing a dog in need!

2nd Annual Doggie Fashion Show & Adoption Event!

Save the Date: June 25th

Location: Seneca Niagara Casino, Niagara Falls, NY

We are in the process of planning our signature event which will take place on June 25 from noon until 4 at the Event Center in the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, NY.  Presented by Life Storage, this year’s theme is the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. We are hoping to see some disco dogs and at least one Madonna!

Our MC will be the lovely Laura Daniels, Morning Host at 104.1 Classic Hits Radio.

Our celebrity judges represent the people who helped to make our new home in Akron possible! They include…

  • Ms. Jayne DeTine, Akron’s Village Clerk
  • Ms. Colleen Nossavage, Station Community Coordinator at WGRZ Channel 2
  • Attorney Richard Boorman
  • Mr. Michael Borth, Code Enforcement Officer, Village of Akron
  • Jamie Mendel-Kolb Hunt, Niagara County, Branch Director – Associate Broker.

This year we will also have the Square One Band who will perform classic hits. They are especially known for their Fleetwood Mac covers.

Once again, we will hold an elaborate basket raffle along with snacks and beverages will be available to purchase through the Casino. The jewel of the afternoon will be when our happily homed and adoptable dogs step across the stage in their finest gear to enter our fashionista contest!!!

This event was huge last year and it sold out. So we have upped our capacity and tickets will go on sale soon. Tickets will be $20 and with that, you will receive a sheet of basket tickets and a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card.

So save the date – June 25 – and prepare to be completely entertained. After all, there is nothing like a dog dressed in couture
