Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Aneta!

Growing up on the outskirts of a small town in Poland, I was always surrounded by animals of all kinds- guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, horses, cows, pigs, etc…and of course dogs.

As I think back to the year of 1990 and my parents’ difficult decision of making the move to the USA to benefit my future, there are so many emotions. Being 16 years old, the things that are most important to you are a bit different than when you’re an adult. I do remember how heartbroken I was because I had to leave my dog Misio.

That just might be the reason why I am so sensitive when it comes to dogs. When my husband Rich and I bought our first house we met a family with a puppy they couldn’t properly take care of. We took him and named him Molson. We fell in love, and he was everything we wanted and more.  When he was about 10 yrs. old we moved to Alden and laughed it was his retirement home. He lived what I believe was a good 14 yrs. And when it   was time for us to let him go it was, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you, beyond difficult.

I suppose going through something like that affects people differently, but we took it badly. Even though we never had children we have always had cats but it took us another 10 years before we decided to get another dog.

Meet Colt.  We got him from Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue on 3/29/2017 and he was exactly what we needed! Full of energy to get us moving and wanting nothing besides our attention. People sometimes forget dogs are time consuming and need to be properly trained yet in return when you look in those eyes your heart will know you’re doing good. So Colt and his 12 yr. old cat brother Miller and 6yr. old cat sister Stella are living the lives I would want if I were an animal lol. I do feel I am too attached to Colt since I wish I could be with him all day every day. I actually don’t want to go on vacation unless he comes with of   course!

So that’s me being content always wishing to do more for the four-legged creatures of any kind. They deserve to live just like us! When I meet people all I really want to know is what’s their take on animals.
