April 2026

March was a whirlwind, but we made it through, and we’re so excited to welcome April!

This past month brought a big wave of new arrivals to the sanctuary. We opened our doors to Sassy (Wirehaired Terrier), Woody (Beagle), Gerry (Shiba Inu), Willy (Beagle), Kira (Miniature Pinscher), and Hershey (Chi/Dachshund mix). Each one came with their own story, their own needs, and their own personality and as you can imagine, it made for a very full (and sometimes hectic!) few weeks.

But this is exactly why we’re here.

Through the busy days, the learning curves, and the constant movement, one thing never wavered: the incredible support of our volunteers. This work simply would not be possible without the people who show up day in and day out, those who are learning alongside us, stepping in wherever needed, and pouring their time and hearts into these dogs. You are the reason this sanctuary continues to run, grow, and provide a safe place for seniors who need it most.

As we head into April, we’re feeling grateful, energized, and ready for what’s ahead – for the dogs in our care and the community that makes it all possible.

Meet Gerry – A Shiba Inu In Need Of A Home

Meet Gerry, a handsome guy who’s ready to find a place to call home!

Gerry came to us from Rochester Animal Services after being found as a stray in very poor condition. He was extremely underweight when he arrived, but despite everything he’s been through, he hasn’t lost his trust in people. In fact, he’s proven to be incredibly forgiving, affectionate, and eager to connect.

Gerry is not only beautiful, but he also appears to be housetrained and is up to date on his care. He’ll be neutered as soon as he’s back to a healthy weight. While we can’t say for sure how old he is, we estimate he’s somewhere between 6 and 8 years old. He loves going for walks and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal walking buddy.

Gerry forms strong bonds and would thrive as the only pet in the home, where he can soak up all the love and attention.

We’re accepting applications now because we know once he’s ready, he won’t be available for long! If you think Gerry could be your perfect match, head to our website and apply at whitewhiskerswny.org.
